Korean Marinated Eggs – Mayak Gyeran (EASY!)

Author:

A Korean Marinated Egg recipe typically uses soy sauce, garlic, and other Korean seasonings to create a flavorful, savory egg dish. Here’s a simple recipe for making these delicious marinated eggs:

Ingredients:

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (use low-sodium for a less salty taste)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 dried chili pepper (optional, for heat)

Instructions:

  1. Boil the Eggs:
    • Place the eggs in a saucepan and cover them with cold water.
    • Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
    • Once the water starts boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer the eggs for 7-8 minutes for soft-boiled or 10-12 minutes for hard-boiled.
    • After boiling, immediately transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Let them cool for about 5-10 minutes, then peel the eggs.
  2. Prepare the Marinade:
    • In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, sugar, minced garlic, and sesame seeds (if using).
    • Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved.
  3. Marinate the Eggs:
    • Once the eggs are peeled, place them in a shallow bowl or container.
    • Pour the marinade over the eggs, making sure they are fully submerged. If you’d like extra flavor, you can gently pierce the eggs with a fork in a few spots before marinating.
    • Optional: Add a dried chili pepper or chopped green onion to the marinade for additional flavor and heat.
  4. Refrigerate:
    • Cover the container and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the eggs to absorb the marinade.
  5. Serve:
    • After marinating, remove the eggs from the marinade.
    • Slice the eggs in half, and garnish with extra sesame seeds or chopped green onions if desired.

Tips:

  • The eggs can be marinated for up to 3 days for a deeper flavor.
  • If you prefer a stronger flavor, you can let the eggs marinate for longer.
  • This marinated egg recipe is great as a topping for ramen, a side dish, or even eaten on its own as a snack.

Enjoy your Korean Marinated Eggs!
